Step by Step: Putting Together a PBM-5 Mariner

YouTube Videos by Frankie Day

Franklyn Day is a 30 year veteran of the US Navy (1957-1987). He has been making models since he was four, starting with his father working on balsa wood models in 1944. “There was no plastic back then, only balsa wood was available,” and wartime restrictions limited the metal that could be used for model making.model plane 3

The PBM Mariner is one of Frank’s favorite flying boats, and he has collected all of the 5 Martin Aircrafts in models at 1/72 scale:

PB2-M MARTIN MARS Proto type
PBM-5 MARLIN
P5M-2 MARLIN
P6M-1 SEAMASTER
MODEL M-130 CHINA CLIPPER.

Frank has made over a hundred models for clients across the country, and some of his works are on display at the Wright Patterson Airforce Base Museum in Ohio.
On his YouTube page, you can watch Frank build a model PBM-5 Marlin plane, with the final video showing the reveal of the full aircraft.
